Road trip update… continued

We left you all off at Ballard Locks, right?  That’s when Morgan lost her first tooth!  I lost interest in blogging and was just too tired from the traveling, slow internet access… blah, blah, blah… so let’s finish up the trip with a wrap up review!

After a yummy breakfast, we headed out to the Locks to watch the salmons “jump” — that’s what we told the children and it’s what others were telling us as we were walking into this place!  The place is a mouthful to say, no?

Here’s Vince and Ethan patiently waiting for the salmon to jump… every time one would jump, we would be so excited… but then it would take another 5 minutes before another would jump out.  So, do not expect any photos of them actually doing it — it was too random for me to even focus!

There’s Alex, Matthew, Uyen and Ryan, and Ed’s Mom, Mrs. Yeh.

It was hard to be patient… so we took a walk down further and watched the salmon just hang out in the water.

August 10, 2009 007

Outside we saw these cool sculptures of waves….the children found them to be fun to hide behind.

Vince liked these.. what was the name of this plant again???  My mom has these in her front yard.

After the Ballard Locks visit, we went to lunch then headed over to the Pacific Science Center.  We only had a few hours, so we moved pretty quickly through the displays.  Oh, turns out that our Happy Hollow Zoo Membership allowed us into this place for FREE!!!!  I know… what an awesome deal!

Here’s our attempt at getting a photo of all 6 children at this cool place!

How cool is that?  They could actually spin Saturn?!

August 10, 2009 028

At the entrance of the critter area, Ethan saw this huge preying mantis…. “whao,” he said!  he stared at it for quite some time….

August 10, 2009 031

Morgan and Vince attempted the chess game I think.. not sure how far they got!

August 10, 2009 035

We first into the butterfly house and one just so happen to visit our backpack:

Stand still  Daddy!

August 10, 2009 047

Leaving the butterfly house, the children ran right into these.  I loved (ahem… I mean, they loved…) these 3D puzzles!  These made Morgan remember that Uncle Matt and Uncle Leo bought her some for her birthday!  Not life size, of course!  Smaller puzzles…

I promise you I did not pose him here.  He literally climb up and requested a photo… of course he’s saying cheese!  I tried so hard NOT to scream!  😉

August 10, 2009 062

Uyen was brave enough (or just crazy like the rest of us!)  to have this hissing Madagascar cockroach crawl up her arm — I never thought I would ever see her doing that… and she’s smiling!  🙂

August 10, 2009 066

Matthew, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure he wanted to touch it….

August 10, 2009 034

The boys tried playing a 3D version of tic-tac-toe…

August 10, 2009 067

They all patiently waited for their turns to move this mechanical dino (Vince included :)):

August 10, 2009 081

How big  were those dinosaurs really?   Well, see for yourselves!  Here’s a Duckbill footprint!

August 10, 2009 090

This looks likes a fine spot to sit and rest.. no???

August 10, 2009 086

As we wandered into the dinosaur section, Ethan was so excited!  He asked me to take a picture of each one.  “Uh pick-ture, uh pick-ture….”  When I asked him to stand in front of the dinosaurs so that I could include him in the photo, he replied, “No… uh cary… oohhhh.”  I kept asking what he was scared of and he just kept telling me… “No, uh cary!”  He didn’t say it in a scared way really – almost like a joke.  But in the end, he would not stand in front of any of the dinosaurs!  Oh well!

August 10, 2009 091

After exploring the indoor part, we went outside and discovered some cool water features and scupltures.  Ethan insisted we took a photo here… he really liked the dinosaurs!

August 10, 2009 098

Morgan was fascinated by this water feature:

Matthew’s eye lit up when he saw this feature!  He did not want to leave!  AWESOME!

August 10, 2009 105

Morgan, James, and Alex worked well together here (with the guidance of Ed’s parents) :

Vince was brave enough to go up and ride this bike — made me nervouse just taking the picture of him up there!

August 10, 2009 109

They all got in and turned the wheel — Ethan did an awesome job balancing himself while the others did the work!
