August Celebrations in review

August was a busy month — and forever it will be, right???

Happy Birthday to all you August people — Anita Chun, Nicole Varnell, Sydney Parse, Ella Parse, Kylie Malone, Randy Gottschalk, Carole Hersom, Rob Synder, Kelly Woods, Katrin Kelbert!

Happy Anniversary to Jill and David Barbee — six years!!!!

So, we have spent a lot of time celebrating the Quach 3’s birthdays!

Morgan and I spent the morning of August 1st at Home Depot putting together a message board:

For those of you who know me.. you know we just banged all the nails together and looked at the pictures, right?  I HATE reading instructions!  That woman behind Morgan was reading every word of the instructions — gosh, it was SO annoying! (maybe their project turned out better — who knows!)  Anyway, we finished the project in 10 minutes (and that poor boy was still listening to his mom read the directions while we packed up and left!).  I only had 10 minutes to spare this morning for this project anyway!  Morgan and I were “just” out running last minute errands to get ready for a family gathering at our house.  We still had the ice to buy… and pick up the birthday cake at Costco! I thought she did a fine job!

Then we went home for a small family gathering at our house to celebrate their birthdays!

I made these shirts for them:

Ethan helped:

Morgan took the pictures:

And this birthday banner that we will be using over and over:

I was inspired by my friend, Amanda Tobler.  But I also saw this on the cover of Amanda Soule’s new book when she started talking about the new book and the banner just looked so much fun!  It was a banner with her daughter’s name.  Originally, that was what I wanted to do — make a banner for Morgan’s room.  But, she doesn’t really sleep in her room anyway.. so I thought I would do this one first.  I had fun doing it and it took no time at all.  That is mostly because I really didn’t plan it out  — I just grabbed some fabric (thanks Melissa Le for buying this dragonfly fabric for me!) and sewed them.  I’m pretty certain that my friend Amanda spent a lot of time thinking about her banner — she is really good that  way! Her birthday banner looks WAY better than mine!

Great Grandma gave her red envelopes to them first:

The yummy food we shared:

The yummy cake they will soon spit on — I mean, blow out the candles…

Ethan was so excited, he kept blowing out the candles even before we started singing (and WHILE we were singing!  M&M were so patient with him!)!

So we had to light the candles… AGAIN (for the 3rd time!)!  (Can you tell the other 2 are so annoyed by now?!)

Finally, HIS very own Magna Doodle!  You wouldn’t believe how popular this toy is in our house!  We now own 3!  It is wayyy better when they have their own!  We use them often to play Pictionary.  Thanks Aunty Heather!

Her lips says is all, “Ooooh!”

She was on cloud 9 when she saw these two princess dolls!  She does not own any (and I am fine with that!) so I hinted to Clare and Heather to picked these dolls up for Morgan.  She loves them so much she barely wants to get them dirty by playing with them — reminds me of my sister!  All her toys always stayed so pristine…mine? Their hair was always cut off or dirty, their skin was written on (tatoos were in back then too!), and dresses torn off and homemade togas were added to their cave like wardrobe.  Hey, comfort is a good thing, right?

During our road trip, Morgan turned 6.  The morning of August 8th, we had a small breakfast birthday celebration.  I neglected to pack candles, so she is blowing out her pretend candles here.  What a good sport she is!

And then we all had cupcakes for breakfast! 🙂  (Not really, but it could have happened!)

We woke up “bright and early” to celebrate Matthew’s birthday in our hotel room.  Vince was smart enough to buy candles!  (Thanks Daddy!)

The Yeh family introduced Matthew to Bakugan today…. do you know what they are?!

A BIG bear hug to thank Alex!

Later that evening, we celebrated his birthday at an Italian Restaurant in Oregon where the servers sang… what was the name of  that place again?  I forgot!

Wow, real candles!

He even “pretended” to be shy!  (But we all know the truth!:))

Upon our return home, we celebrated Annamarie’s 6th birthday at Pump it Up — oh, that was so much fun!  (Annamarie is in the front wearing a black t-shirt)  Can you find Morgan?  (she’s behind Ethan’s green ball! Sorry Morgan!)

Just when we thought the celebration was over… we had one last one!  Because Morgan has a summer birthday, it was hard celebrating iwth her school peers.  So, Liz (another mom whose son, Wesley, has a summer birthday, and was a friend of hers in Kindergarten) and I thought of a gathering that would allow all their former Kindergarten friends and their new freinds to join in the celebration.  Liz was kind enough to open up her community pool to all of us — and there were a lot of us!!

These two boys are Owen (left) and Nathan (right.)  Their moms, Kelly and Astrid, became my very good friends last year.  We all helped each other survive the dreaded teacher experience!  Liz (Wesley’s mom) and Melinda (Olivia’s mom) were also there to help me through a difficult year.  Although it was a  terrible year, a great bond was created between us moms.  Unfortunately, Owen and Nathan were accepted in Hacienda Magnet School this school year… We will miss them at Allen at Steinbeck.  But we hope to still see them off and on throughout the school year.

This is Morgan and Jenna.  Jenna was in Morgan’s class last year.  This year she is attending another school in the district.

Ethan LOVES Owen!  He spent a lot of time during the school year with Owen’s sister, Addion.  Every now and then Ethan would go and play with Addison while I ran some errands.  Aren’t they the cutest???  Ethan tripped on the way to see Owen and stopped crying as soon as Owen went to help him up — see that smile?  Can’t tell he was just crying, can you?!

August was a BUSY month.  We enjoyed every minute of it BUT I’m glad that September is here.  I apologize for being out of it — posting has been put on the back burner as I am trying to get into some routine with the boys while Morgan is at school.  We have so many play groups and just not enough time!  I am doing my best to maintain some structure but also allowing some flexibility during the week.

My routine consists of going to the grocery store only ONCE every 2 weeks.  I make a menu every Sunday night and stick to the menu throughout the week.  We are more flexible during Saturdays and Sundays when Mom comes over.  The children during the weekdays are bathed before Vince gets home.  During their baths or play time after showers, I make dinner. We eat as soon as Vince gets home!  Once we finish dinner, we clean up, have a small dessert (ice cream, cookie, a piece of chocolatete), get ready for bed, and everyone is in bed by 7:15 PM and asleep by 7:30 PM.  Although editing is not a priority right now, as I am finishing up my projects, I still have so much to do!

Right now, my addiction is reading! I spent 3 days reading The DaVinci Code — great book!  Too much religious stuff for me to remember, but the drama and suspense was awesome!  I am now reading Angels and Demons.  So… I am finally making time for myself and reading each night — after my chores!

What are YOU doing for yourself???
